I had a very odd dream. I do not know why, but that strange dream I had kept haunting me. A tall lady dressed in red, forcefully grabbed me by my wrist and dragged me out of bed. She opened the bedroom window, held me very tightly, and jumped out of the room. Her actions frightened me because my bedroom is on the second story of my house. I asked her where she was taking me, but she did not reply. Still clasping me, she began to run in an easterly direction. Her speed was incredible, she ran faster than the wind and the swallow. She stopped at a small quarry. That quarry had been abandoned for a long time.
“Why did you bring me here?” I asked, “Don’t you know vicious animals live in there?”
She laughed at my comment and said, “Oh, dearest little one, don’t you start with your silly remarks and queries. Besides, no creature would live in there, that quarry is a wasteland. It has been stripped of its minerals and poisoned by the most vicious animal of them all…man…”
“Are you going to toss me into that pit? Is that why you have brought me here?” I asked.
“Of course not, little one,” replied the lady in red, “why would I want to do that?”
“Well…because you have snatched me from my chamber,” I replied, “and you have been cruel to me for a long, long time…” I looked at her in the eye, as I did my blood ran cold.
“Ha! Balderdash,” she replied, “you’re absurd. I have brought you here to show things that explaining them to you would be futile. You are daft and oblivious, yet your wisdom, no matter how strong, it is useless. Remember that little one.”
The lady in red showed me a large boulder and said, “You see that thing? It may stand strong and seem intimidating, but in all reality, it’s as weak as an egg.” The lady in red smashed the boulder with her fist and pieces of it went flying at different directions.
“Now that I have smashed a boulder, let us go to the real destination…,” she said.
“What? So…so you just took me here to insult and disrespect me?” I asked, “You ought to be ashamed of yourself. Picking on me, not to mention raping me…hauling me around like a bag. You’re horrible!”
“You are worse than those pigeon-doves,” she replied, “you coo too much, little one…”
As much as I protested, she ignored me and carried me off to a strange location. I am not sure if it was in my town, or if we had left the city-state, it was too dark for me to make out the terrain. As she carried me I screamed and I screamed, but no one heard my cries. To the denizens, my cries where nothing more than bird calls; avian lamentations of detention, that no one cares much about, that are mistaken for a sweet song of freedom…
She stopped at an old arch-bridge and carefully took me underneath it.
“Why did you bring me here?” I asked her, “I’m cold…”
She looked at me with an expressionless gaze and said, “I’m about to show you something, that I know you would be interested to know, little one…” She pointed at the bricks underneath the bridge and added, “Someone has written things on here that might be important to you, little one…”
I looked at the bricks and I saw nothing. I turned and looked at the lady in red and said, “I don’t know what game you are trying to playing with me, but I do not see any writing.”
“I have forgotten you have mortal eyes,” she replied. She pulled a hairpin out of her bouffant and stroked it across the bricks. The hairpin lit up like a match, it had a bright red flame, and its radiance was green. She held it against the bricks, which became green. On the bricks, I saw strange red letters written on the bricks, I could not understand the message because it was written on another language. I looked at the lady in red and asked, “What does it say? I cannot understand those markings.” She began reading the message aloud, in its original tongue. I had never heard such a strange language, I cannot describe it, and because it did not sound like anything, I have ever heard before. Seeing that I was still confused she said, “Tsk-tsk…What am I going to do with you, little one? According to that writing, which was written by a sorceress of your race, it is a contract with the Crow Lady asking for a favor. The message does not explain what the favor is, but it says that the sorceress shall give the Crow Lady something that the Crow Lady needs…If you are going to ask me how I know the author is female look at this mark…” The lady in red pointed at a sign, which looked like a bowl with 3 dots over it. As I got closer to take a better look at the writing, a strong gust extinguished the lady in red’s hairpin, which she placed back on her hair.
“Aren’t you going to light another one?” I asked her, “I can’t see…”
