FELLOW SKEPTICS!!! How can I not seem like a jerk?
Aug 14th
Question:
Crop circles. Dowsing. “The Secret.” EVP. Ouija. Tarot. The Bible. Like many of us I used to believe in almost all things “para-normal.” In the past few years, I stumbled across freethought and the concept of critical thinking. I began looking into all of those things beyond the books and tv shows profiting off of these beliefs and though disappointed at first to learn none of them are real, it didn’t take me long to find a far greater happiness in embracing truth.
But now I have a problem. Most of my friends and family still DO believe in some or all of those things. I must have a terrible approach because anytime I point out that “this” or “that” thing has no evidence of truth or legitimacy and what evidence there is all points to “NOT TRUE” I really set people off. One contrary statement is usually enough to get people angry at me and I’m treated like a close-minded cocky know it all for even suggesting that they, like me, have been fooled by various types of “bs” as Penn & Teller might say.
I want to share what I have learned with the people that matter most, but I can’t even broach these subjects without being attacked. I don’t call people stupid or foolish or ridicule them but the result always seems to be the same. Is it because they want to believe so badly they dismiss any thoughts to the contrary? How can I point these things out to people without coming across as a jerk?
Is there any way a person could prove it to skeptics?

Question:
What I mean is, pretend for a moment that you believe in the possibility of paranormal activity for the sake of answering this question.
Let’s say person A has a real experience and cathches everything on camera, EVP etc… Person B is the skeptic. Person A shows person B the evidence.
Would person B (being a skeptic and all) really accept the evidence, or do everything in their power to disprove it?
Yes. People who don’t believe will naturally try to find a way to find a logical explanation for things. This is understandable, but when asking for evidence, how can a person really give undeniable proof to a skeptic? Are skeptics really asking for proof when all they will do is try to call it all a lie or craziness?
Forgive me for my trouble in finding a way to express point.
