Question:
I would like to challenge skeptics to try something. Most of us have a voice recorder laying around. Please, just for ten minutes open up your mind and try recording evp. You might feel silly doing it but ask a few questions while you record. Listen to what you have recorded and let us know if you got any answers. I would dearly love to hear from people that are nonbelievers and have tried it. What do you have to lose except ten minutes of your time?
EVP is electronic voice phenomena. It is the recording of voices that can only be heard during playback.
I guess I should have said a recording device. A cell phone will work. It is easier to hear evp with headphones.
Totally Me: Good luck! I did try it too years ago and got nothing. I decided it was just dumb and would never work. Then about three years ago I tried it again and it blew me away. There were people talking in complete sentences, answering my questions. Since then I have recorded literally hundreds of EVP. It is such a shock to get your first one.
Wiccan, I’m sorry you haven’t recorded your first one yet. I don’t understand why that would be, but keep trying. My hope was that if at least 10 people would just give it a shot maybe, just maybe, one of them would actually be able to record something valid. It looks like it is something beyond their consideration. Oh well, life goes on. I will keep recording and maybe one day science will be able to find a way to prove that the voices we are getting aren’t of human origin. I know that giving links to my recordings will not prove anything to anyone. Most people will say that they are a hoax.
Since I was asked I am sharing an EVP here that I recorded in an empty home last year. There was no person in the building,I left my recorder running and went outside. There was no electricity so no other sources of sound. The building is very isolated with no nearby homes or businesses. Here is the link

I hope this works, never tried this site before.
Right now on Ebay

I tried this after I saw thw movie white noise..its still bull to me lol..goooood movie tho
If you want me to do anything you are going to have to tell me what evp means, and what I do while recording.
may i ask what your asking exactly im mean this may be a stupid question but what is evp
and on top of that nonbelievers in what
not beliving in god?
and who has a tape recorder
you should change that to use your cellphone to record whatever it is that your recording
I’m not a skeptic, but I can be.
I tried this once and got nothin…
No harm in trying again though right?
—Your right though, it does feel stupid.
EDIT: This only really works if there is some kinda spirit around.
Your challenge is a waste of time. I take it you think your EVPs are ghosts?
You are using a device designed and built for recording sound waves, which are completely understood by physics, to record “something” that is completely outside of physics and the known universe. Recording devices are not made for this purpose.
Whatever makes you believe the noise you get is going to be a ghost? We don’t even know that ghosts exist, let alone what their physics are. I’m sorry but that just makes zero sense.
Furthermore, there is millions of electronic gadgets filling the air waves at all times. The probability that your EVP is earthly is a orders of magnitude higher than it is for ghosties from beyond the grave.
Ghosts have never been demonstrated to exist, and there is not one single piece of credible evidence to support them. All proper investigations of hauntings always find mundane earthly reasons.
While science does not know what lies beyond the known universe, whatever that is, it does know about the power of suggestion. Please take a look at this link, which I hope will help with your understanding of this so called EVP:
Auditory Pareidolia

You will need to scroll down.
It would be very cool if ghosts were real, but unfortunately until there is some actual compelling evidence, their is no rational reason for such a belief, no more than belief in flying pink unicorns.
Its ok to keep an open mind, but just not so open that your brains fall out.
Okay, I just have to answer this one. First f all I am not a skeptic. I am a true believer and have been investigating the paranormal many years now. I had my own team one time but disbanded it. I have tried to record EVP well over 7 years now and I have yet to record my first. But Still for some reason I believe it is possible and will keep trying. I have tried in many famous hunted locations al over Texas and in many cemeteries and places I know for sure are haunted due to my own experience, but still nothing, so to ask a skeptic to just randomly start recording for EVP is not the best way to try and convince a skeptic.
I say that because after all these years i am almost at the point of believing EVP’s are not possible. All of the ones I hear on the internet and the ones my friends and colleges have recorded have been very debatable at best. Very grainy and many times they claim to have a voice when I hear nothing.
I personally do not believe we believers can do anything to convince the skeptic, I was once a hard core skeptic myself and it took a ghost appearing to me to convince me and even then I denied it for years.. I believe the best way to convince the skeptic is for them to see a ghost themselves.
If a true believer like me doubts EVP’s then why would the skeptic be convinced?
I am not a skeptic, but I have doubts about EVP and photography–too many variables and room for deception. A blurry something on film or a mumbled something on tape isn’t credible. To actually experience a ghost or paranormal phenomena first hand with witnesses is, at present, the best we can do. Lots of fun. Observe and report. Good luck!
Although I am skeptical about many things, I am also a believer in others. EVPs are a gray area. A lot of “EVP” samples on the web are far from convincing. Others are pretty damn good! I’ve posted a link which provides some of the better ones.
I have done this. I ended up recording some sounds that, if amplified and filtered, sounded like words. It was eerie. The whole thing is described below in my blog. The audio links aren’t working right now, but you can read what happened.
Yeah…I’ve heard those. They are just over active pattern recognition.
Im no skeptic because in the spirits! I have seen them, felt them, and heard them in my house. I haven’t yet done the recording yet but I plan too to see of My Dad is around and too figure out who else is here.
I’ve tried accidentally and on purpose many times. To answer your challenge I’ll try again tonight.
It might help if you posted some of your EVPs.They sound like they’d be pretty convincing. If you don’t know how to get them up.(I wouldn’t know how).I’m sure someone would be glad to help you.Are there any volunteers?
I’d like to challenge you in return. Take a piece of paper and fold it in half. Sprinkle a few drops of ink inside and smoosh it around to make an inkblot.
When you unfold the paper you will be amazed to find a picture of a butterfly or a flower or two puppies kissing has “magically” appeared. If you can’t see an image, keep trying until you find one.
But remember, just because your mind can find meaning in random ink patterns doesn’t mean you’ve found an actual butterfly or a real flower or two genuine puppies inside the piece of paper.
P.S. You can do the exact same thing with random noise recorded with a cheap recorder.
Well I tried It last night, n I’ve always had experiences since I was little n I’m capable of seeing things but my bfs always interested in wat I c or hear, so I told him to try it, it was just us two at around midnight..we got nothing for the first 5 minutes, then we tried the knockin on wood a beat n asked to respond, we got a response but it was very quiet,I told my bf he’s standin by the door in our room, he then asked r u by the door..he heard a noise, then as we. Were gettin ready 2 go 2 bed the bathroom door shut closed n we had a video camera going as well n u can clearly c there was nothin there wen it shut..it was crazy, wen we checked the evp for the rest of the answers, we didn’t get many but we got weird sounds that sound like answers..my bfs still interested..
just remember, sounds come from sources which obey the laws of pysics. If you really “open your mind” you will have to search and study (I know this takes education and time but, hey, that’s what learning requires) until you find the actual source of the sounds.
Oh, by the way, when you write “open your mind” most skeptics kind of laugh and realize this really means, “close your mind to logic and discovery”
If you post any more EVPs can you please not tell us what they are supposed to say (the title gave it away). I did hear “have you met my father” but then that was what I was expecting to hear. The two syllables afterwards didn’t really sound like “he’s dead” to me sounded like “my hair”.
I plan on trying it as soon as I can afford a recorder.
Do you have digital or regular recorder?
I believe in Paranormal world, but also need to be convinced.
